(I)Aahan Shaikh loved Aayat Mirza a lot.
We
were like two and but one heart
We have been together for quite some time
now.
Aayat loved gardening. She always use to say, “My
garden is my masterpiece.”
I was so madly in love with her that I made
garden stepping stones just to see her happiness and add beauty to her
masterpiece.
Aahan, I was from a very small family living
hand to mouth, and was working as a simple fry in a company having a small
some of pay to lead life and fulfill basic necessities.
The future of us didn't seem bright,
but we were so madly in love that nothing mattered, until one day…
It was
a pleasant evening. Aayat had just completed the last chore at home and was
waiting with coffee for Aahan.
Daily evening is somewhat became a ritual of
them having coffee and discussion the entire days miseries.
I remember clearly it was 5th February, the
day when Aayat came to me with her usual smile in her usual attire and handed
me over the coffee mug.
“I am going to Pune for further studies and I will
never come back.” Aayat said.
I was motionless
“I don’t see our future together and it’s
better to part ways”, Aayat continued
“We should now lead life our own ways, and I
wish you all happiness”, she completed.
I didn't know what to react and but I loved
her too much and didn't argue nor asked her a single question. Agreed to what
she said and I just left her house with moist eyes
I was shattered and broken. Aayat was the only
thing I had. I had lost my parents when I was small.
I was a
grand failure, but I learnt the lesson the harder way.
“Before you can live a part of
you has to die- my heart died, you have to let go of what could have been, how
you should have acted and what you wish you would have said differently. You
have to accept that you can’t change the past experiences, opinions of others
at that moment in time or outcomes from their choices “.
Her words...That we don’t have
a future together had an everlasting effect.
I worked my ass off day and
night to establish an identity. I slogged day and night.
Finally with all hard work
and help from my friends, I set a company of my own. Not very big but least
someone could see a future with me. You never fail until you stop trying. I
learnt the lesson.
One rainy day, while I was driving,
and I saw an elderly couple was sharing an umbrella and walking to some destination.
Even with the umbrella they were drenched.
It didn't take me long to realize
that they were Aayat’s parents. I drove slowly for them to realize who I was in
my luxury car.
I had the strong feeling of
making them realize that I wasn’t the same poor lad anymore. I have grown, my
own car, company and can afford all comfort. I made it!! This mere thought made
him happy.
But before I could realize anything
more or approach her parents I saw them walking towards a cemetery.
For moments I was blank I
parked my car and followed them.
I was left motionless when I see the photograph of Aayat smiling at me from the Tombstone and then I see all the garden stones surrounding it.
For the first time I realized
that there can be one person who means so much to you, for you might wake up
one morning losing that very person who you thought meant nothing to you.
Her parents noticed me. I couldn't
cry but I was sobbing inside. I hated her all these years to leave me in a
jiffy.
I gathered all my courage and
asked her parents as to what happened.
Her mom explained, she never
went to Pune though she was diagnosed with cancer last stage and she hardly had
a few days to survive.
She has this firm believe Aahan
that some day you will be a big man, she had faith in you but she never wanted
to be your obstacle and worry you with her pain, which would eventually divert
you, that’s the very reason she chose to leave you.
You know why she loved
gardening .The single greatest lesson that garden teaches is that our relationship to the
planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and
people still can plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try,
find ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world
She loved you until her last
breathe. Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them too, doesn't mean they don’t love you Aahan.
She wanted the garden stones
to be laid next to her grave with a thought that if someday if faith brings you
to her, you can take some of these stones with you and cherish her for
lifetime.
“Once you have loved you will
always love, for what is in your mind may escape but what’s in your heart
remains forever,” the last words written by Aayat
I couldn't control myself anymore and just
wept…
The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can't have them.
“Loving someone isn't about
what you can live with, accept or tolerate. For me, it's about the one person
you can't live without. Too know that part of your life will never be the same
without that one person being apart of it.”
I lost her, I lost my life but i have heard no one is dead while his name is still spoken.
Aayat will always be in me with me ...
